OSCARS NIGHT 2012 | The Ranking

BEGINNERS > The costume party scene = most romantic pick-up ever. Arthur, the sub-title talking dog, as funny as Jon Hamm’s uncredited Ted. Continue reading

OSCAR NIGHT 2011 | 127 Hours

I expected a large portion of the screen time to be in set up (getting to the point of being stuck) and a significant amount of scenes of what was happening in the real world when they finally learned he was missing. Nope. Continue reading

OSCAR NIGHT 2011 | The King’s Speech

I could handle Bellatrix as Queen Elizabeth, and Dumbledore as King George V seemed quite natural, but I just couldn’t get past Wormtail as Churchill. Continue reading

OSCAR NIGHT 2011 | The Social Network

The Social Network is filled with several characters, based on real people, who have some fairly strong intentions. The dialog is sharp, fast-paced, and witty. A lot like The West Wing. OSCAR NIGHT 2011 | The Fighter

Another underdog sports story inspired by a true story. Think Rocky, Rudy, or Invincible (which also starred Mark Wahlberg). The movie is uplifting and worth two hours, but also predictable and formulaic. The plot also serves up three supporting role nominees. Continue reading

OSCAR NIGHT 2011 | Black Swan

Thomas Leroy, artistic director of a New York City ballet company, sets the stage for their opening production of Swan Lake. Nina, played by Natalie Portman who is nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, lands the lead role and struggles to overcome her uptight, unrealistic standards for perfection and her overbearing, over controlling mommy dearest. OSCAR NIGHT 2011 | The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The girl with the dragon tattoo, Lisbeth, is also an investigator, only not an elite-news-magazine-reporter kind of snoop like Mikael, but more like a WikiLeaks hacker-who-knows-all-your-passwords kind of snoop. The two join forces to find the decades-old killer and make a intriguing odd couple, mainly because of Mikael’s generous unconditional awe for Lisbeth. Continue reading
