Keep an Eye on That

LISTEN TO THIS > THE TIM FERRISS SHOW | General Stan McChrystal on Eating One Meal Per Day, Special Ops, and Mental Toughness

Chris Fussell, McChrystal's Aide-de-Camp, shares an engaging antidote about the general's leadership style. One of the coalition forces lost a helicopter and went through a 72-hour stand down. A loss that big can create a lot of self doubt, so the general told Fussell, "Keep an eye that. The first time they're up in the air to go out on a mission, we're going out with them." They didn't make a big deal about it, but when the coalition force was ready to get back in the game, "the old man" rode along, very visibly showing his confidence in the team.

Wine Worth a Listen

LISTEN TO THIS > SLATE MONEY: Ep. 60, The Wine Edition, JUL 4 ⋅ 58:10

During the intro for this "very special edition" of Slate's Money podcast, I was contemplating skipping it because it was an entire hour dedicated to wine and the economics of it. For this beer guy, it sounded like a waste of time, but the economics side of the conversation turned out to be quite fascinating. While blind taste test prove again and again that there is no taste difference between expensive and cheap wine, if you know the story behind the wine, buying more expensive wine can make you happier. I'm planning on doing some further testing to see if the same is true with beer.
