CODY Outruns Todd in June

Crushed! Shellacked! Walloped! For the month of June, I got overwhelmingly defeated by Cody WYCO Jones. He decisively won the Outrun Todd Challenge with a mind-blowing 510 miles. Get a load of this. He ran 52 times in only 30 days averaging 9.8 miles per run.

I had a brief moment of joy on the first of day of the month. I took the day off to run all day. I knew he planned to commute to and from work, which would be a little over 20 miles. What I didn’t know was he took the long way home and managed to log 32 miles for the day. On his second run, he called me out on Strava with, “Ball is in your court 🤖.”

What he didn’t know is that I also had a surprise for him. I took the day off and ran 37 miles, so I replied with “If WYCO keeps up his psycho commutes, I might have to quit my job to spend more time running. Is the ball still in my court?” Which earned a “Touché” response from Cody.

Proud moment for me, but it was short lived. I had hoped to run much farther that day, but the heat was getting to me, and my foot was hurting. Later when I looked at the times, I saw Cody ran his 32 miles in 4 hours and 5 minutes. I took over twice that long to run 5 miles farther. It was going to be a long month!

I woke up the next morning with more intense foot pain. Long story short, after lots of help from my chiropractor and doctor, I’m recovering in a boot with only 65 miles on the month. Thankfully, Cody made it extremely clear that he would have won even if I had been at my best. Hell, he would have won even if I had been 10% better than my best. My plan was to run 430-450 miles for the month. That would have been a huge stretch for me, and he still would have trounced me.

CODY'S HIGHLIGHTS

  • 6/1-4, ran 100 miles in the first 4 days of the month.
  • 6/6-7, ran 53 at Summer Shoustice.
  • 6/8-18, he commuted to and from work and averaged 18 miles a day.
  • 6/14, ran a marathon during Gilbert's Westin Ride.
  • 6/19, headed to Colorado and managed to work in 3 runs on a travel day.
  • 6/20-28, in Colorado he biked, drank beer AND ran 103 miles.
  • 6/21, summitted Mt. Harvard and Mt. Columbia.
  • 6/28-30, came home and ran another 30 miles on the last two days of the month.

He busted Jeremiah's recent records and now holds both the most miles in a month and biggest lead. Cody wins even when you compare him to professional runners. He ran more than Kaci Lickteig (449 miles), Michael Wardian (369), Zach Bitter (346), Jim Walmsley (342), and Sage Canaday (280). I was in awe watching Cody consistently crank out the miles! He showed the Terminator what a real machine looks like. It will be my honor and pleasure to celebrate his huge achievement with tacos and beer!
